Get Your Supporters Campaigning For You Online

If you want to get your supporters campaigning for you online then you need to help them!

It takes time to build a set of resources to help people campaign or promote your cause online, but the results are well worth it. Think of your members or supporters as your virtual sales force, helping you promote your campaign or cause.

By providing a set of resources for them, you are giving them tools to be successful in promoting your cause. Here are a few things your resource area should have:

Training Materials: Some of the people that are promoting your campaign will be seasoned veterans at promoting online. They will have websites that receive steady traffic and will be familiar with the online social networking tools. These people will know exactly how to help you promote your cause to its’ full potential.

On the other hand, some people will be new to the whole idea of promoting online. By providing training materials, such as a guide to using Twitter, setting up a blog or using email to connect with people you will be giving them a helping hand.

Sample Emails: If you are encouraging your supporters to email their friends about your cause, without of course spamming people(!) then the message contained within an email needs to stand out from all the other emails this person receives. Of course, not everyone is a gifted writer, so helping them with this part is worth the small amount of time invested.

Ads and Tweets: In addition to promoting your cause via email, some supporters will want to display ads on their websites and blogs. It’s always a good idea to provide people with some text link ads as well as some graphic ads in a few different sizes. With the increasing use of Twitter you may want to look at providing a series of pre-written Tweets that they can incorporate into their regular twitter activity. These tweets should capture your key messages.

Articles: It’s no secret that people turn to the web in order to gain information. By providing supporters with articles about your key messages which they can use on their websites and blogs, you are helping them drive traffic to their sites, giving their readers a reason to stay on the site for a longer period of time, and promoting your campaign at the same time.
